I am writing a blog post after a very long time. I choose Angry Indian goddesses movie as my come back post and the movie deserves a good review.I choose this film not because its all woman centric flick but because it literally sets the truth free of all bondage. Film is not about feminism or voice of women sort of movie but its about putting forward the main issues and the way to deal with them in a women's way , like ferocious goddess kali's way. The music scores a good numbers too and it suits the adventurous way of movie.
The story starts with Frieda , a photographer inviting her girlfriends to Goa cottage for a surprise which turns out to be her marriage. She does not yet specify who is the prince charming and is kept secret untill second half of the movie. Movie shows women in all her principle roles as a mother, wife, care taker, explorer, adventurer. Nargis as a independent and stubborn activist who fights for people's rights. Madhurita 'Mad' as a wanna-be-singer who is quite talented but is forced to sing at a bar. She is in depression because of her failures in singing career. Suranjana ' Su ' as a corporate women who comes with her 6 year old girl and is very protective about her but a helpless mother who can not really give time to her kid. Joanna 'Jo' struggling Bollywood actress who usually gets caste for her gothic looks and curvy body. Pavleen 'Pammy' once-upon-time-scholer but now a housewife who literally wastes her talent just because her husband does not want her to work. Lakshmi ,frieda's maid who literally jiggles everything singlehandedly and is crushed by society just because she is a women. She is obsessed with vengeance for her brother's murder. She is the real face of women in lower realms of society.
The story goes on where Frieda tells her girlfriends that she is getting married but does not reveal guy's name.In the backdrop of beautiful goa , their reunion blossoms. They rediscover one another and slowly everybody's happy life mask tears apart ,reopening the wounds. There are all kinds of feelings present in their relationship with one another. Su and Nargis have animosity between them but then they reunite because of Su's kid. Pammy is jealous of Mad's free life , her caring boyfriend but later realises that Mad is not very happy with her life and is depressed. Jo is enthusiastic and is a bubbly girl who tries to do something good to everybody. These is love in air for her with the neighbourhood boy but ultimately she suffers terribly. Frieda is sad and happy at the same time as she is getting married but her dad does not want to attend her wedding. She is bold and fearless, not afraid to reveal that she is gay. Lakshmi is very helpful and takes care of Su's kid all the time , kind of showing women's protective nature. In one of the scene of Lakshmi with a very old lady help reveals the bitter truth of women's life. I wont tell the whole plot but the movie is worth a watch. The only despised thing about this movie was the censor board. The censor board have reached the epitome of censorship in this movie by beeping each and every occurence of F word. What the foxtrot ! Seriously censorboard was one hell of spoilsport in the overall experience of the movie. But still movie is worth a watch and you can always fill the F word gap in your head or out loud because we are fearless of bullies. No one is stopping you. :)
