Lalbaug-Parel : Epic tale of "textile mill" era of "Amachi Mumbai"

After Ringa Ringa, i did not watch any marathi movie.so, decided to watch a latest flick Lalbaug-Parel.Though, i could not catch Prabhat theater's show of that movie as timing was not convenient for me. I myself think that one should watch a Marathi movie in Prabhat only... It feels different.. :)

So, finally, i decided to go to Nilayam theater.Lalbaug and parel being the old part of mumbai there resides our "Marathi manus". Now, that time, Textile Mills were the greatest means of earning bread and butter for people of mumabi. But, sudden downfall of these mills kept marathi manus dumbstruck and till date he could not rise from that fall.
The cast of the film is just fabulous. Each one of them have done their job perfectly and roles just gets imprinted on viewer's mind permanently.I especially liked Sidhdharth jadhav as speed breaker : a stammering guy who becomes side-hand of Pakya ( a local gunda outcome of mill's downfall ).

The movie starts with a description of change in rates in Lalbaug-parel area which increased 100 times in 50 years. Proceeds with the narration of Baba ( ankush chawdhary). The whole plot is seen through one family's eye but other families and common problem of mill shutdown is woven in fabulous way. The common problems like men turn towards crime, woman resort to prostitution and some families also commit mass suicide are very well conveyed. The political plot behind the end of mill era is touched very little but, still sufficient as the film seems to be revolving around a family drama and not towards criticalities of politics behind end of era. so, we can say , that film is on downfall of mill stuck family story..

All in all, very good movie to watch .... :)

  1. If you liked this movie then I recommend a Marathi drama on which this movie is based.
The drama name is 'Adhantar' written by Mr. Jayant Pawar a renowned columnist.
Cast:- Jyoti subhash, Sanjay Narvekar, Rajan Bhise, Bharat Jadhav n 2 more ledy actress.
After watching this I was really impressed with this man and I watched it over and over again.
This drama is translated in hindi also which I saw at FTI Pune. That was also too good attempt by renown realistic theater director Mr. Anirudha Khutwad.
